Gunston Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15th through October 15th.

The annual, month-long celebration is a time to recognize the legacy of Hispanic culture, history, and achievements which have shaped our society and continue to inspire generations. At Gunston, we will use the month to emphasize that our strength lies in our diversity, and our unity is built upon a foundation of understanding, respect, and appreciation for one another’s backgrounds and experiences.

Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, students will read quotes in both English and Spanish during the morning announcements, sharing inspiring words from people representing the wide range of diversity within the Hispanic and Latinx communities. During TA, students and teachers will explore Hispanic culture and history through music and games. Lessons will allow students to consider the importance of recognizing cultural heritage months and appreciate and share about their own unique identities. Gunston staff and students will also work together this month to build a collaborative art project to be displayed during the upcoming evening event, “The World Meets at Gunston” in October.

We invite all students to participate in Hispanic Heritage Month festivities offered throughout the school day to recognize and celebrate some of the people, traditions, and culture that have helped shape and continue to contribute to our Gunston legacy.
