Greetings Gunston Families,

Thank you for the grace you extended to us this week. And thank you for the extra attention shown to your child. It was a very difficult and sad week. We will move forward, but grief is tricky. There is still a lot to process. Please continue to keep a close eye on your child, and we will too.  It may not be apparent at first if your child is struggling to process their emotions. And grieving is a process. If you have concerns about how your child is managing, please reach out to their school-counselor.    Next week, students will take the Virginia Growth Assessment for the second time this year.  Like we did in the fall to equally distribute the time for the assessment among all classes, we will operate on a two-hour delay schedule on Tuesday (1/10) and Thursday (1/12). It will be a full-day for students; students will be at school during regular school hours. I just wanted to let you know about the change to the schedule for testing purposes.  Please, make sure your child arrives on time those days and please do not schedule appointments for Tuesday or Thursday morning. If you would like more information about the Virginia Growth Assessment, letters will be posted on the Gunston website.    Again, thank you for your care this week.

Warmly,
Dr. Wiggins
