See the many ways Gunston is celebrating Black History Month!

We will celebrate and honor the contributions of African Americans in the Arts throughout the month with the following events. Consider how you might get involved and encourage your student(s) to participate!

 

Black History Month Activities

Morning Announcements

Several mornings a week students will share professional biographies or quotes from influential Black and African Americans, along with their own personal reflections. If your student is interested in being on the announcements this month or in future months, they can send a message to Ms. Kristin La through Canvas.

Join us Tuesday, February 13, 2024 5pm – 8pm as Gunston celebrates African Americans in the Arts.

  • Performances by students highlighting African American influences in fashion, photography, film, literature & music
  • Food samples from local restaurants
  • Special musical guest

8th Grade Career Panel - Feb 20

8th grade students will have the opportunity to hear from two Gunston family members about their career and professional journey, with reflections on their identity and the legacy they are building. Ask your 8th grader about their career ambitions after hearing from our families on the 20th!

African American Read In - Feb 26-27

During English Language Arts classes on Feb 26 & 27 students will perform and/or watch their peers perform as they showcase the work of African American and Black authors, poets and playwrights. Encourage your student(s) to sign up to volunteer with their ELA teacher to read, act, or direct during their ELA class period event.
