Collaboration is at the heart of working with gifted students. We partner with classroom teachers to make learning meaningful, challenging and developmentally appropriate. Together the classroom teacher and I strive to make the learning environment cooperative and engaging where students make choices, with an emphasis on critical and creative thinking.
We use the Differentiation model developed by Carol Ann Tomlinson from the University of Virginia and the work of Mary Slade at James Madison University to address the needs of the gifted and talented students. Teachers work on advancing differentiation and higher level thinking strategies best practices in professional learning communities to meet the needs of all their learners.
