8th Grade End of Year Activities

We have exciting events scheduled to celebrate the end of the school year. Here’s what’s coming up!

Activities List

8th Grade Formal - June 7th

8th Grade Formal Dance: Friday, June 7th, from 6:00 to 8:30 pm, in the cafeteria

There will be a DJ, amazing decorations, and delicious snacks!

  • The cost of admission is $10 and includes snacks.
  • Permission slips will be sent home with your students on Friday, May 10, 2024
  • No guest from another grade or school is permitted.
  • Tickets will be on sale from May 20th to June 3rd during 8th-grade lunch.
  • If you would like to volunteer or help coordinate this event, please email Ms. Romero (maria.romero2@apsva.us) or Ms. Delgado (maria.delgado@apsva.us).

 Dress code expectations: khakis, dress pants, dresses, collared shirts, skirts, belts. Students should not wear sweats, leggings, shorts, bare midriffs, jeans, or T-shirts.

Ice Cream Social - June 11th

Ice Cream Social: Tuesday, June 11th, at 1:00 pm, at Gunston

This event is free for all 8th-grade students.

  • Dairy and non-dairy ice cream treats will be available.

8th Grade Promotion Ceremony - June 12th

8th Grade Promotion Ceremony, Wednesday, June 12th, in the Gunston Gym

Important details:

  • The ceremony will start promptly at 9:00 am in the Gym.  
  • Due to limited space, only two guests per student will be allowed at the ceremony venue. (Please note that children of all ages count as guests. There is no space for infants or strollers, etc.)
  • The 8th Grade Team will share the 8th Grade Promotion Attendee form via Canvas for students to complete with their families.  Due to limited space, only two guests per student will be allowed to enter the 8th Grade Promotion site. TA teachers will issue two wristbands to each student to give to parents for attendance.  You must have a wristband on to enter the Promotion.  There will be no in/out.  Once you are in, you must stay in the Promotion.  (Please note that children of all ages count as one guest.  There is no room to hold children on laps, in strollers, etc.)  
  •  The day of the promotion: Guest check-in begins at 7:30 am at the designated door based on the student’s last name.
    • Student’s last name, A – D, guests must enter through Door B 7
    • Student’s last name, E – P, guests must enter through the Ramp Door next to B 7
    • Student’s last name,  Q – Z, guests must enter through Door B 8
    • The ceremony will be followed by a reception with light refreshments in the courtyard by Door B 10.
    • At the conclusion of the festivities, all 8th graders will depart with parents.
    • NOTE: If you require accessible seating, please make reservations directly with Facilities by email no later than June 7th at adriano.borruto@apsva.us.
