Greetings Gunston Families,

I hope that you have been enjoying the gift of milder weather. It was especially nice today to see the sun shining. I don’t know about the prospects for weather events that disrupt the school schedule but the milder temperatures and drier conditions have been welcomed. Students were able to eat outside today. In my classroom visits this week, I observed students working on their grade determination forms, an exercise in reflecting on their performance thus far for the second quarter. I do think that activity prompted some student action. I chatted with three different students today who were headed back to a teacher’s classroom to retake a summative assessment during lunch. It is really about the learning, but if students can be motivated by a grade, then we hope that our standards based grading system is a win-win for all parties. Students keep learning until they earn the grade they want. So, some small victories this week at 2700 S. Lang Street!

Warmly,
Dr. Wiggins
