Greetings Gunston Families,

Woot! Woot!  We made it through the second week of school!  I am not counting down but rather counting up.  I don’t want to miss an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate our successes. Each week of navigating schooling in the pandemic part three, to me, is reason to celebrate!

This coming week will also be a short week with the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, there is no school for students on Thursday, September 16th.  For those families celebrating, we share our warmest wishes for a meaningful holiday.

On Tuesday, September 14th, we will be hosting Back To School Night.  The district made the decision that the format would be virtual, based on the success of last year’s virtual event, to accommodate all families, and as another layer to maintain physical distance.

Back To School Night will be from 6pm to 8pm.  You will have the opportunity to meet all of your children’s teachers of their 7 classes and also spend some time with their TA teacher, who will also share important information with you.  Each class will only be 10 minutes in length, but they will be a full 10 minutes!  Should you have questions that are specific to your child, you can either email the teacher or the school counselor.

You can see your child’s schedule in ParentVue. Students also can see their schedule in StudentVue.  Plus, in their Canvas account, they have a Canvas course for all of their classes, including TA.  The Microsoft Teams links for each class, for Back to School Night, will be posted on Canvas.  We will make sure that students know how to access them before Tuesday evening.  Because your child will be very involved in the process, we have renamed this event to Bring Your Family To School Night!

Below is the schedule for the evening. We will also post it on our web page.  If you are not able to attend, the teachers will post a recording of their class presentation on their Canvas page.  You will be able to see the video with your child’s device.

Period Time
Period 0 (TA) 6:00 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.
Period 1 6:20 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Period 2 6:35 p.m. – 6:45 p.m.
Period 3 6:50 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Period 4 7:05 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.
Period 5 7:20 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Period 6 7:35 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.
Period 7 7:50 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

I do hope that you are able to login and meet the amazing teaching team here at Gunston Middle School.  While you won’t have the opportunity to see them in person, you will be able to get a sense of their warmth, compassion, professionalism, and commitment to your children through the screen!  They are rock stars, already!

Warmly,Dr. Wiggins
