Greetings Gunston Families,

It was great to see so many families on Tuesday during Back To School Night.  I liked being able to meet families, make connections between emails and faces, and to see some of the students’ support team.  I hope that you had a good time too.  Plus, it brought me a little joy to share with students the following day that their families experienced getting lost in the building, just like they did on those first days of school!

If you were not able to attend or were not able to make it to all the classes, the teachers have posted their presentation on Canvas.  Ask your child to show you the Canvas page of the class(es) you would like to see.  You can view the presentations there.

Our next opportunity to spend some time with you will be at the end of the month.  We are hosting two town-hall style gatherings, virtually, one in English and the other in Spanish.  Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, Sept 27th (Spanish) and Thursday, Sept 29th (English).  We will send out the zoom link next week.

During the last several weeks, students have been engaged in different beginning of the year assessments.  Next week, they will take the state required growth assessment, which mirrors the SOL.  To efficiently and to equally distribute the time for the assessment among all classes, we will operate a two-hour delay schedule on Tuesday (9/20) and Thursday (9/22).  It will be a full-day for students; students will be at school during their regular hours.  I just wanted to let you know about the change to the schedule for testing purposes.  Please, make sure your child arrives on time those days and please do not schedule appointments for Tuesday or Thursday morning.

We are three weeks into the school year.  I’m feeling good about our direction, feeling good about the journey thus far, and feeling good about the company.  Again, it was good to see and meet many of you on Tuesday evening; I look forward to getting to know you better and to getting to know your children better.  The familiar and collaborative relationships help us to be able to best meet the needs of your children.  Warmly,Dr. WigginsA Few Reminders:
