Principal Welcome Message

Dear Gunston Middle School Families and Community Members,

My name is Carolyn R. Jackson, and it is an honor to join Gunston as the new principal. I return with pride to a place that brought me great joy and many wonderful memories. I hope this message finds you enjoying summer and that your scholars are looking forward to a wonderful school year together starting August 28th.

I share Gunston’s commitment to providing a rigorous, culturally responsive, inclusive, and caring learning environment. As we move into the 2023-24 school year, my priority will be building strong relationships with students, staff, families, and the community to ensure every scholar feels seen, heard, and safe. I look forward to meeting everyone and learning more about how we can best support our students’ academic and social-emotional development. I am deeply committed to supporting every student by name, strength, and need. We must all appreciate and celebrate the contributions, successes and unseen gifts that each student brings daily.

I have been in Arlington Public Schools since 2000, working as a teacher, Activities Coordinator, counselor, Director of Counseling, Assistant Principal, and department supervisor in the central office. My varied experiences and background have prepared me well for this new leadership position in a place I love. I’m dedicated to working hard to continue the legacy of success established by the Gunston community. To continue educational excellence at Gunston and to enrich our wide variety of offerings, I am committed to collaborating with our knowledgeable administrative, teaching, and support staff to meet the needs of all students. Timely and effective communications with families and community members will increase partnerships and identify specific goals and opportunities in climate and student achievement.

Families and community members, please look for more school information on our website and social media during the summer months, leading to our opening in August. During the month of July and the beginning of August, I will host opportunities to meet, answer questions, provide insight, and reunite with some familiar faces.I look forward to years of celebrating success and making our students the priority. Stay safe and enjoy the rest of the summer.

Ms. Carolyn Ruth Jackson
